Avon Books has snapped up two more books from GD Wright. Rachel Hart, senior commissioning editor at Avon Books, acquired world English rights to the two as-of-yet untitled novels from Laura Macdougall at United Agents. The first of the novels will publish in 2026, with the second to follow in 2027.
As with Wright’s first two thrillers, these will be set in the fictional seaside town of Beachbrook and star recurring character DS Sue Willmott, "with a moral dilemma at their heart".
Wright joined Kent Police at the age of 18, and at the age of 29 he suffered two cardiac arrests that led to the diagnosis of a life-limiting and incurable heart disease. He was given an internal defibrillator, so had to leave policing and retired at the age of 30. He bought a coffee shop in Ramsgate Harbour and now writes full time, committing those stories to paper.
Hart said: "Gary’s writing is some of the most propulsive and emotional I’ve ever read, and I’ve been utterly blown away by the responses from readers and authors to his debut, After the Storm, which we published last summer. I’m looking forward to building on his highly acclaimed Beachbrook series with books three and four, which I know readers are going to love."
Wright said: "Bringing my Beachbrook series to life with Avon has been a dream come true. I can’t speak highly enough of the whole team, with special praise to my editor Rachel Hart, and I can’t wait to take the series to greater heights with these two new books. Bring tissues, it’s going to get emotional."
