No Exit Press will publish Russell Banks’ new novel Foregone as a lead fiction title in June 2021.
Editor-in-chief Geoffrey Mulligan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Nora Rawn on behalf of Ellen Levine at Trident Media Group. Ecco will publish in the US in March 2021. French rights have been sold to Actes Sud with Italian rights going to Einaudi.
Foregone will tell the story of Leonard Fife, an acclaimed filmmaker who fled to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam. Fife plans to make a recorded deathbed confession which will overturn the narrative of his life in shocking ways.
Mulligan said: "Russell Banks is one of the great American novelists, and we are truly delighted to be publishing his magnificent new novel Foregone, his first in 10 years, on the No Exit Press list."
Banks' last novel, Lost Memory of Skin, was published by Profile Books in 2011.
