Banshee Press has landed High Jump as Icarus Story, the debut poetry collection from Gustav Parker Hibbett, Let’s Dance, a short story collection from Lucy Sweeney Byrne and Tenterhooks, the debut short story collection from Claire-Lise Kieffer.
Publisher Laura Cassidy acquired world rights for Let’s Dance and Tenterhooks directly from the authors. Cassidy also acquired UK, Ireland and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, for High Jump as Icarus Story directly from the author. The books will be published in July 2024, October 2024 and spring 2025 respectively.
High Jump as Icarus Story is a "stunningly accomplished debut [which] deconstructs and redefines notions of Blackness, queerness and masculinity through the lens of myth, pop culture" and high jump. "When Parker submitted to our 13th issue of Banshee, I was immediately struck by their work’s freshness, originality and wit", said poetry editor Jessica Traynor.
In Let’s Dance, Byrne explores subjects such as physicality, identity and disillusionment in a variety of forms from flash fiction to novella. Cassidy commented: "Dazzling, inimitable, and surprising, Lucy’s second collection, Let’s Dance, will delight loyal readers and bring many more to her electrifying work."
Kieffer’s Tenterhooks "depicts the bonds that hold couples, families and communities together with a sharp, humane and original slant". "We first came across Claire-Lise when our fiction editor, John Patrick McHugh, selected her work for our 12th issue back in 2021," commented editor Eimear Ryan. "She later sent us a manuscript that was so inventive, so funny, and written with such poise and precision, that we knew we had to publish her debut collection."
