Bantam Press has acquired a memoir from businesswoman and "Dragon’s Den" star Sara Davies, written with author and journalist Alex Heminsley.
Susanna Wadeson acquired world rights in all languages, excluding the US and Canada, from Paul Stevens at Independent Talent Group. We Can All Make It: My Story will be published in April 2022.
Davies has been a Dragon on the BBC's "Dragon's Den" since 2019 and is currently starring on "Strictly Come Dancing". She was raised in the north east and, by the time she left university, was running a business with a £500,000 turnover from her student bedroom. Her global craft business, Crafter’s Companion, is now worth $40m (£29.3m).
In her memoir, Davies will share what it took to achieve her dreams, from manning factories overnight with her parents to hitting the trade shows of Las Vegas alone. She said: "I really hope this book will give inspiration to people looking to have a career and a family. It's not always a smooth path but if you doggedly pursue your aim, it is possible to win at both. In We Can All Make It, I share anecdotes from my life which will hopefully motivate other people to achieve their ambitions both at work and at home.
"I employ a lot of working mums and young women who aspire to have a career and a family and I now want to take my lifetime of skill and knowledge out of the workplace and onto the pages of a book, not just for aspiring entrepreneurs but for anyone wanting to know what worked for me. This isn't a stylised version of my life, it's based on something very real and through juggling a family, managing a business, an investment portfolio, training for 'Strictly', I'm now the busiest I've ever been—but I'm achieving the most in my life."
Wadeson commented: "Sara has all the grit, energy and drive you would expect to find in a business person at the top of their game, but it is rare to find someone who is also as warm and kind and with such an authentic sense of joy for everything she does. She is truly inspirational. She says that ‘good storytelling is the key to making sales’. In We Can All Make It, she proves just what a great storyteller she is."
