US author Leigh Bardugo’s "Grishaverse" books will be adapted in a Netflix Original series.
“Bird Box” producer Eric Heisserer will adapt and act as showrunner for the “Shadow and Bone" eight-episode series. The show will encompass the stories and characters of both Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, two overlapping series that take place in Bardugo's small island nation, known as the "Grishaverse" (both series published by Orion Children's Books).
"In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country,” the series’ synopsis reads. "But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive".
The series reunites Heisserer with US production company 21 Laps, of "Stranger Things", which also produced his Oscar-nominated film “ARRIVAL". Pouya Shahbazian, of the Divergent series, also serves as an executive producer.
Bardugo's "Grishaverse" books have been translated into 38 languages around the world. A new instalment of the "Grishaverse", King of Scars (Orion), will be published on 29th January.
