Barrington Stoke has landed a "magical high-stakes adventure" from Lindsay Galvin, marking the author’s first book for the HarperCollin’s imprint.
Publisher Ailsa Bathgate acquired world rights from Clare Wallace at Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency.
Set against the backdrop of the 17th-century witch trials, The Elixir follows Ann Storer who has inherited her grandmother’s gift of healing. When she combines her talents with the genius of the young Isaac Newton, the two create an incredible elixir with seemingly unlimited powers. Ann must hide her abilities when witch-hunter Abel Geach arrives in town, but when a plague also arrives, will she reveal herself to help those she loves?
Galvin said: "I’m delighted that my twisty tale of sorcery, invention and persecution has found such a fabulous home with Barrington Stoke, a publisher I’ve long dreamed of working with.”
Bathgate added: “From a simple nugget of information about Isaac Newton boarding above an apothecary shop in Grantham, Lindsay Galvin has spun an enthralling and dramatic novella that will hold our readers spellbound."
The Elixir will be published in June 2025.
