Barrington Stoke has signed a two-book deal for a duo of "heartfelt" animal tales from Helen Peters.
Publisher Ailsa Bathgate acquired world rights directly from the author. New Arrivals at Willow Farm will be published on 14th March 2024 and mark Peters’ first book with Barrington Stoke.
The synopsis for New Arrivals at Willow Farm reads: "There are two cute new arrivals down on Willow Farm, but they’re both having a difficult start. Snowy the Sheepdog seems to be better at making friends with the sheep than herding them. He’ll be sent away unless he can earn his place. Poor Cowslip the calf is missing her mum. None of the other animals seem to want to make friends until a strange-looking new creature arrives who’s just as lonely as Cowslip. Follow the adventures of Snowy and Cowslip as they find their feet on the farm."
Peters said: “I’m a huge admirer of Barrington Stoke and the brilliant books they publish, so I was thrilled when they asked me to write for them. This is the first time I’ve written stories from an animal’s point of view, and I loved the challenge of imagining the world through the senses of a puppy and a calf. I was inspired to write these stories by real-life examples of animals who behave differently from what’s expected of them, and I have so enjoyed writing about unusual animal friendships and the challenges and rewards of forging your own path in life.”
Bathgate added: "Helen’s contemporary stories feel immediately like timeless classics, and she depicts her characters with gentle humour and huge affection. New Arrivals at Willow Farm is the perfect read for the seven and over age group – engaging, entertaining and comfortingly satisfying. I think these stories will be extremely popular with our readers."
