John Murray’s new crime imprint Baskerville has secured three more titles from Mick Herron, including a standalone novel and two more in his Slough House series.
Yassine Belkacemi, editor and publicity director at John Murray Press, bought world rights, excluding North America and Canada, including e-book and audio rights, from Juliet Burton at the Juliet Burton Literary Agency.
The deal comes as Herron’s Slough House thrillers, future publishing, and the rest of his backlist move to John Murray’s new literary crime and thriller imprint Baskerville. Herron will join authors such as Kaoru Takamura and Frankie Boyle on the list.
Baskerville will be reissuing the Slough House thrillers in March with new covers, and Herron’s books will now display Baskerville’s emblem on the spine of the hardbacks and paperbacks. Additionally, the eighth book in the Slough House thriller series will be published in May 2022.
A TV series, “Slow Horses”, based on Herron’s novel of the same name, will also be broadcast on Apple TV. Written by Will Smith of “Veep”, the series stars Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, with a cast that includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Saskia Reeves, Olivia Cooke and Jack Lowden.
Herron said: “I’m thrilled to be continuing my relationship with Yassine, with John Murray, and with the very special team who have worked so hard on the Slough House books. Their commitment and enthusiasm have transformed my career, and I know they’ll continue to work wonders."
Belkacemi said: “I’ve worked on Mick’s books since John Murray began publishing him in 2015. We’re delighted to see the way his readership has built in the years since then – and grateful to the retailers, readers, reviewers and authors who have helped make this happen. This year looks like it is going to be very special with the TV series, a new Slough House book, new covers for the Slough House thrillers, and lots more exciting things to come from Baskerville, which are currently filed as ‘Top Secret.’ But most importantly, I’m ecstatic that this deal sees us continue to be the proud publisher of such a wonderful author and person.”
Herron’s Slough House novels have won two CWA Daggers and been published in 20 languages.
