BBC Books will publish Frances Tophill’s A Year in A Small Garden, the presenter’s first official “Gardener’s World” book, in spring 2024.
Ebury publishing director Albert DePetrillo acquired world rights from Charlotte Robertson at Robertson Murray and the BBC. A Year in A Small Garden will publish in hardback on 25th April 2024.
Chronicling Tophill’s journey to create a small garden in her new home from scratch, it features new photography shot throughout the year, as well as Tophill’s garden journal entries and sketches.
Tophill first appeared on “Gardeners’ World” in 2016 and stepped up to occasionally present the show last year.
BBC Books editor, Phoebe Lindsley, said: “I love Frances’ holistic, creative and thoughtful approach to gardening. This book distils Frances’s years of experience into practical takeaways and following her journey to create her first garden – with all its ups and downs – has been truly inspiring. This book is perfect for anyone looking to start gardening in whatever space they have, however small.”
Tophill added: “This book is an exploration of what I have learned about gardening and the ideas I have come to form in my career and life about nature, plants and about how we interact with them. The book follows my processes and thoughts as I start to put all those ideas and lessons on paper and onto the ground in a garden design for myself, in my first home.”
