BBC weather presenter and breakfast TV favourite Carol Kirkwood has signed a deal for two novels full of “love, scandal and secrets” with HarperCollins.
Senior commissioning editor Kate Bradley acquired world rights from Kerr MacRae at Kerr MacRae LPA. The début will publish in summer 2021.
Bradley said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Carol Kirkwood to our publishing family. Carol is brilliant at connecting with her audience because of her wonderful qualities: warm and down to earth but with real heart and genuine emotion. We’re going to build a long-term publishing brand with Carol that will epitomise those. It’s going to be must-have holiday reading for women everywhere next year—full of love, scandal and secrets!”
Kirkwood is a popular BBC figure, presenting the weather for its “Breakfast” show and appearing on “The One Show”. She was also a contestant on “Strictly Come Dancing”.
She said: “I am delighted to be working with HarperCollins. They are such an enthusiastic, professional and fun publisher who have made me feel at home right from the start. This is my first foray into writing and I could not wish for a better partnership and look forward to it being a lasting one! I would like to thank Kerr for his unwavering belief and confidence in my abilities. I love how books transport you to a different life and world, through the use of language and one’s own imagination. I can’t wait .... as we all know, an unleashed imagination has no limitations!”
McRae added: “Carol is a natural storyteller, and I am delighted we have found her the perfect publishing partner. Carol's warmth, enthusiasm and uplifting style will make her stories some of the most sought after reading of 2021 and beyond.''
