Bedford Square Publishers has acquired a trio of non-fiction authors. Launched in December 2022, the publisher now has 12 new non-fiction titles encompassing history, travel, popular science and wellness.
Jamie Hodder-Williams acquired world rights in travel writer Ash Bhardwaj’s first book Why We Travel from Jo Cantello at Wolfsong Media, for publication on 11th April 2024. The book explores the human desire to travel and the ways that people benefit from travelling.
The author writes for CN Traveller, the Times and the Daily Telegraph. He also reports for BBC Radio 4’s "From Your Own Correspondent" and recently co-presented the travel series "Expedition Borderlands for Discovery". He is also the co-presenter of the "First Mile" podcast and winner of the British Guild of Travel Writers’ Best Broadcast Programme of the Year.
Bhardwaj said: "I am delighted to be working with Jamie and the experienced team at Bedford Square to reveal Why We Travel, and what it tells us about human motivation. Their passion and support have been invaluable.”Moreover, Hodder-Williams acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in Anthea Rowan’s The Silent Tsunami: Swimming against the Tide of my Mother’s Dementia from Dotti Irving at Greyhound Literary, and the book will be published in September 2024.
The author is a journalist and writes a column called "Decoding Dementia" in the South China Morning Post as well as a blog for Psychology Today. The Silent Tsunami is described as "a unique combination of memoir and medicine" in which the author "examines the development of her mother’s illness and explores dementia in a frank but illuminating, lyrical and moving way".
Rowan said: “We have to understand this illness to make the catastrophic experience of living with it a tiny bit less frightening. I hope this book encourages conversations about dementia in the same way that other books have shed important light on mental illness.
”Finally, Hodder-Williams acquired world rights in Dave Mountjoy’s Being with Cows from Paul Feldstein at the Feldstein Agency for publication on 23rd May 2024. The book is a nature memoir telling the story of how "grief became gratitude" by looking after a herd of cows in the French Pyrenees.
The author, Mountjoy, is a cattle breeder and the founder of Being with Cows Retreats. He was featured in the BBC documentary "The Secret Life of Farm Animals".
