Ebury will publish comedian and writer John Bishop's take on ageing, How To Grow Old, this autumn, with the exact publication date still to be confirmed.
Publisher Andrew Goodfellow bought world rights from Lisa Thomas at Lisa Thomas Management.
How To Grow Old is described by the publisher as “a beginner’s guide to the inevitable – a very funny handbook on how to face the ravages of time for all the fans who have grown older alongside John". According to the publisher it explores "how to stay fit and keep a social life, to how to not become an embarrassment - it’s John with all the warm, observational wit that remains at the heart of his comedy, but with a refreshing honesty any reader will relate to”.
Bishop is one of Britain’s top comedians, whose last tour “Winging It” played to more than 500,000 people across the UK and Ireland. He has produced some of the biggest-selling stand-up DVDs of all time.
Andrew Goodfellow said “We are very excited to have John join Ebury and I think this is going to be a lot of fun. John’s comedy, which never strays far from his own life, is perfect for the page and as he heads boldly into his 50s he’s got plenty to report back on what he has found.”
Bishop said: “It’s for anyone starting to feel the pull of time, so hopefully anyone from their 30s up will find something to relate to and laugh at. If not, you are pretending to still be 25, wearing the wrong clothes and dying your hair… so this book isn’t really for you.”
Bishop's autobiography How Did All This Happen? was published by HarperCollins in 2014.
