Black & White Publishing has bagged A Drowning Tide, an "unpredictable, gripping story of toxic families", from Sarah Lawton.
Editor Rachel Morrell acquired world rights from Felicity Blunt and Rosie Pierce at Curtis Brown for publication on 12th September 2024.
Set on the Isle of Wight, A Drowning Tide follows cryptic-crossword solver Merry, who becomes involved in the search for her late best friend’s son, Lucas Manning, with private investigator Gareth Jones.
Lawton said: “I am thrilled to be working with Rachel and the team at Black & White. Merry’s world is very close to my heart, and I hope readers enjoy exploring it as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
Morrell added: “I am so excited for the world to dive into this cosy and riveting mystery, surrounded by a beautiful portrayal of the Isle of Wight in A Drowning Tide. We have intricate characters, perplexing clues, unearthed secrets, gadgets worthy of a spy thriller and an incredible narrative which draws you in, much like the relationship Merry has with the ocean. It’s addictive, funny and keeps you guessing until the end. I hope people will enjoy an escape into Merry’s world as much as I do.”
