Black & White Publishing has acquired The Unexpected Love Story of Lexie Byrne (aged 39½) by Caroline Grace-Cassidy, a "laugh-out-loud" novel which "emphasises the value of taking risks in life and following your heart".
The synopsis reads: "Meet Lexie Byrne. The big 4-0 is looming and she’s perfectly content with being single. How else could she watch classic romance movies on repeat and eat popcorn in bed? Now that she’s free of her love-rat ex, she’s never settling again. After an electrifying encounter one St Patrick’s Day, Lexie takes a leap of faith and a flight across the Irish Sea for a hot date with the man who might change it all. Her best friend Annemarie disapproves, and insists on tagging along to keep Lexie out of trouble. But, with sparks flying and tension brewing, Lexie’s dreams take a serious nosedive. Until a most unexpected arrival knocks them all off their feet."
Campbell Brown, managing director, acquired world rights directly from the author, with publication scheduled for 12th August 2021.
Brown said: “It’s a huge pleasure to be working with Caroline on this funny, poignant, feel-good novel. We know how much readers love the energy and wit of her books, and they’re in for a real treat with this relatable, buzzy story. We think it’s her best yet!”
Grace-Cassidy commented: "Being single as you approach a certain age is often seen as a problem – for women, that is. I wanted to create a character who disregards these societal pressures, embraces her status as a single woman and refuses to settle for anything less than 'The One'. Most importantly, I hope Lexie Byrne can bring laughter and joy to readers."
Grace-Cassidy is the author of Bride Squad Runaway and The Week I Ruined My Life, both published by Black & White.
