A K Blakemore’s Desmond Elliot Prize-winning The Manningtree Witches (Granta) has been optioned for TV by The Forge. Rights were sold by Zoe Ross at United Agents. Charles McDougall has been attached to direct.
The Forge is a UK-based producer responsible for a wide range of Bafta and RTA award-winning dramas including Jack Thorne’s “National Treasure” starring Robbie Coltrane and “Help” with Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham.
Blakemore said: “I’m thrilled that The Forge will be adapting The Manningtree Witches – I can’t think of a better home for the story of Rebecca West and Matthew Hopkins, and I know it will be handled with sensitivity and enormous flair. For an author, there is no greater privilege than to see one’s work take on a life of its own, and find such brilliant custodians. I can’t wait to see Manningtree again through their eyes.”
