Bloom Books, an imprint of Sourcebooks, has acquired the rights to a new book from romantasy author Scarlett St Clair. Publishing director Christa Désir acquired world rights to Terror at the Gates from Caitlin Mahony and Alyssa Reuben at WME and will be publishing the book in hardback globally on 8th July 2025.
Désir said: “This is one of our most exciting projects from Scarlett yet. Blending elements of film noir and dark fantasy, Terror at the Gates is sure to bring Scarlett to a whole new level. As with all her books, this is a deeply researched imagining of the story of [protagonist] Lilith in a unique way. I cannot wait for readers to dig into this one.”
A sex-positive “feminist rage fantasy”, this is the first book in a new series, Blood of Lilith. Based on the biblical story of Lilith, the first woman in the Garden of Eden and the woman who would not obey, it "combines biblical lore and the drama of duelling families".
Désir added: "It’s a little different from what mainstream romantasy is doing right now. She’s carving her own path, but Scarlett has always done that.”
St Clair is a romantasy author. The seven-volume Hades x Persephone Saga has sold 2.6 million copies worldwide and the series finale, A Touch of Chaos, hit number one on the New York Times list after publication in March.
