Bloomsbury Children’s Books has scooped two more “comedy gold dust" adventures from writer Jo Simmons and illustrator Nathan Reed.
Editorial director Zöe Griffiths acquired world rights, excluding north America, for Simmons from Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown and for Reed from Claire Cartey at Holroyde Cartey. The next book, I Stole My Genius Sister’s Brain, will publish in July 2020, with another to follow in July 2021.
Simmons and Reed’s first collaboration, I Swapped My Brother on the Internet (Bloomsbury Children’s Books), was selected for the W H Smith Tom Fletcher Book Club and the Summer Reading Challenge and was shortlisted for prizes including the Laugh Out Loud Awards 2020. My Parents Cancelled My Birthday followed in July 2019.
Griffiths said: “We are thrilled to be publishing more fantastic books by Jo and Nathan. This pair are comedy gold dust and going from strength to strength. Their books are the most fun to work on and they have a legion of fans desperate for more.”
Simmons added: “I’m so excited to be working on another two books with Bloomsbury and Nathan Reed. The amazing support and commitment from the Bloomsbury team and Nathan’s witty and wild illustrations have been the rocket fuel behind my stories, and I’m so pleased we’re all coming together again to create more fun adventures for young readers.”
Reed commented: “I love illustrating Jo’s stories and am so excited to be given the opportunity by Bloomsbury to pair up with her again. The cast of weird and wonderful characters and their hilarious shenanigans make the books a joy to work on and I certainly don’t want to swap this author on the Internet anytime soon.”
