Bloomsbury Children’s Books has scooped a multiverse adventure series from debut author Colm Field.
Editorial director Hannah Sandford acquired world rights in all languages from Davinia Andrew-Lynch at AndLyn Literacy Agency. The first book in the series, Kyan Green and the Infinity Racers, will be published on 16th February 2023 with an illustrated cover and black-and-white internal illustrations from artist David Wilkerson. Wilkerson is represented by Robyn Newton at The Bright Agency.
Field said: “I’m still getting my head around all the brilliant people who have brought Kyan Green’s multiverse to life. David Wilkerson’s illustrations knock me out every time I look, and with Rose Gerrard’s incredible cover design the book pops out more than I ever would have hoped. Above all, Hannah Sandford’s editorial guidance has sent the story to the next level, light-years beyond what I would have managed without her. Big thanks to the Bloomsbury team—I still can’t flipping believe all this is happening. And a gigantic thank you to my agent Davinia Andrew-Lynch, who has had my corner since day dot.”
Kyan Green and the Infinity Racers is the story of a world-hopping racing driver. The synopsis explains: “A battered old toy racetrack sucked him into a whole different universe, and now he is competing in the Infinite Race—where every level is more epic than the last! With his family about to lose their home, this is more than just a game to Kyan. There is life-changing prize money up for grabs. Does Kyan have the skills to take on the multiverse and win?”
Sandford said: “Colm is such an exciting new voice in middle grade fiction. I’ve been waiting for years for a book this action-packed and full of heart to cross my desk, one that combines genuinely funny, really accessible writing with the kind of effortlessly clever, epic-scale world-building that a generation of multiverse-savvy readers will go wild for. So get ready for an adventure that is out of this world… and all of the others too!"
Wilkerson, based in the US, added: “I was originally blown away at how immersive the story is from start to finish. Colm introduces a cast of relatable characters to a complex setting like the multiverse. It’s exciting to see our heroes navigate these unique worlds and overcome various obstacles while keeping their eyes on the prize.”
The second book in the series is set to be published in early 2024.
