Bloomsbury General has acquired Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage and another untitled novel by journalist Rebecca Reid.
Darcy Nicholson, publishing director at Bloomsbury General – the company’s new commercial division – bought world rights to the books from Eve White at Eve White Literary Agency. The Bloomsbury rights team has brought Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage to London Book Fair as one of its big titles for the event.
Publishing in summer 2025, Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage is described as a "funny and moving romantic comedy about influencer couple Jessica and Jack, who have built their lives – and their careers – around their relationship". The synopsis says: "They have millions of followers and a shiny new book on what they call their ’method’, Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage, but off screen, offline, it’s not working; they’ve drifted apart. Can they save their relationship, and their careers, by actually following their own rules?"
Reid is a writer of five books and former digital editor of Grazia. "Darcy Nicholson was my first editor, back when I was a baby author, and working with her was an unalloyed joy, so predictably I’m very excited to be working with her on Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage, especially at Bloomsbury, which publishes so many of my literary heroes," the author said. "Seven Rules is a story I’ve been working on for several years (ironically since before the end of my own marriage) and developing it further with Darcy and her team has been wonderful."
Nicholson added: "I’ve been trying to lure Rebecca over to love stories for years. Seven Rules for a Perfect Marriage was so worth waiting for; it is funny, astute and moving, with a killer pitch to match. Our brilliant rights team will seek to gather a group of standout publishers around the world to deliver this excellent new chapter in Rebecca’s writing career."
Reid’s previous novels include psychological thrillers Perfect Liars (Corgi) and Two Wrongs (HQ).
