Bloomsbury heads Off the Beaten Track with Dorey

Bloomsbury is to publish a new series of titles focusing on routes and locations for motor homes, by Martin Dorey. 

Following the publication of  Dorey’s Take the Slow Road series, Off the Beaten Track: England and Wales will publish in May 2022, followed by Off the Beaten Track: Scotland publishing in 2024. The guides will detail the hidden idylls and remote, beautiful places for camper vans and motorhomes, as well as for general adventurers who are looking for more than just overcrowded hotspots.

Elizabeth Multon, publisher of Bloomsbury imprint Conway, has acquired world language rights for two books in the new series, from Tim Bates at PFD.

Multon said: “It has been a joy to publish Martin’s Take the Slow Road series, and see how the books have formed the basis for so many readers’ adventures, and I’m so excited to be continuing the journey with him – this time travelling right to the edges of the map, uncovering the wild and beautiful parts that the masses never reach. Off the Beaten Track will be the templates for some ultimate road trips, and I can’t wait to get going!”

Dorey is a writer, surfer, environmentalist and a serial campervan owner and adventurer. He presented the BBC2 television programme "One Man and his Camper Van" and is the author of many books on camper vans. He writes for Coast magazine, Waitrose magazine, writes a regular food and travel column for The Caravan and Motorhome Club Magazine, and is a regular judge for their Motorhome Design awards. He is the c.e.o. of an environmental anti-plastic charity, The 2 Minute Foundation, formed following 10 years of cleaning beaches near his home in Cornwall.

Commenting on his new series, he said: “I’ve loved every minute of researching and writing the Take The Slow Road series. But now it’s time to look a little deeper. Getting off the beaten track, for me, is more a state of mind than it is revealing secrets, and this series will take me to the places we’ve overlooked, forgotten or have simply fallen out of love with. Our tiny, busy little island might be overcrowded and oversubscribed but there are still places to go that are away from the honeypots. I believe we can see England and Wales in a new light, from a different point of view and with new joy. I can’t wait to load up the van with walking boots, kayaks, surfboards and bikes and start a whole new series of inspiring journeys.”

His next book in the Take the Slow Road series, showcasing the best driving routes around France for camper vans and motorhomes, as well as the picturesque countryside spots, vineyards, and breath-taking coastal locations France has to offer, publishes this month.
