Bloomsbury has signed Unhinged, a parody of Boris Johnson’s memoir Unleashed (William Collins) by comedy writer Ian Martin.
Editorial director Grace Paul acquired world rights for print, e-book and audio to Unhinged: Life Lessons from Boris Johnson (a parody) from Abby Singer at Casarotto Ramsay & Associates Limited. It will be published on 10th October 2024, the same day as Johnson’s memoir.
Martin is an Emmy and Writers Guild of America award-winning writer who wrote for the BAFTA-winning “The Thick of It” and “Veep” and was the co-writer of “The Death of Stalin” for Armando Iannucci.
The blurb reads: “The perfect, parody Christmas gift book for that selfish egomaniac in your life. Love him or (let’s face it, more likely) loathe him, Boris Johnson has been a towering figure for decades in the worlds of politics, journalism and personal scandal.
“Somehow he always bounces back. How does he do it? And how might we mere mortals elevate our piffling lives to greatness?
“Unhinged: Life Lessons from Boris Johnson is a guide to how the man has conducted his life, and how we can take useful guidance to enhance our own. How to trivialise everything with buffoonery, for example. How to make rich and influential friends.
“How to smash everything to pieces and then try to fix it and then smash it again and again. The book will concentrate on the really good stuff and simply ignore the rest, like a discarded girlfriend.”
Bloomsbury added: “Here are easy-to-recreate social gambits, life rules and some great excuses that’ll get you out of all sorts of tricky situations. Let’s all pay him the respect he deserves. Let our motto be: Be More Boris!”
