Bloomsbury is to publish a new book from William Hill Sports Book of the Year winner Jamie Reid in spring 2018.
Publisher Charlotte Atyeo acquired world rights from Clare Conville at Conville and Walsh.
Monsieur X will tell the true story of Patrice des Moutis, an aristocratic gambler who went up against the French state-run betting system and became a Robin Hood figure in the process.
Atyeo said: “From the first page, I was utterly gripped by this stylish, noirish thriller. Jamie’s such a great, richly atmospheric writer so this is the perfect tale for him to tell. The excitement of the horseracing world, the glamorous Nouvelle Vague setting in the smart Parisian salons and bedrooms, a charmingly audacious hero thumbing his nose at the authorities, the shadowy French underworld – it’s just a wonderful story.”
Conville said: “I loved the proposal for Monsieur X. It’s stylish, wicked, funny and told with true panache.”
Reid won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year in 2013 for Doped (Racing Post).
