Bloomsbury Sport has scored the first Gary Lineker biography in 30 years, from sports journalist Chris Evans.
Matthew Lowing, publisher at Bloomsbury Sport, acquired world all-language rights to Gary Lineker: A Portrait of a Football Icon from Chris Evans, and the book will be published in hardback on 30th January 2025.
"As player and pundit, Gary Lineker has been a prominent figure in English football for more than 40 years," the synopsis says. "He scored 48 goals in 80 games for England—coming within a penalty of being the country’s record goal scorer—and is the only player to have topped the goalscoring charts at three different clubs [...]. This enlightening biography follows Lineker’s career, from the school report that said ‘He concentrates too much on football’ to his phenomenal goalscoring record and development as a media personality."

Lowing commented: "Chris has been working on this fascinating and brilliantly researched biography for 14 months. In light of Lineker’s departure from Match of the Day, it made sense to publish a little sooner than planned. Gary Lineker is such an important national figure; it seems fitting to celebrate his life on and off the pitch."
Evans added: "Living near Leicester for most of my life, Gary Lineker has always been an important figure—it feels like everyone of a certain age has a story to tell about him or his family, whether that was buying fruit and veg from the Lineker market stall or playing football against him as a child. He’s grown to be much more than that and is now one of English footballs most recognisable faces, so to tell the story about how he has become a national icon is a privilege."
