Bloomsbury unearths Maiklem's second mudlarking title

Bloomsbury is to publish A Field Guide to Larking: Beachcombing, Mudlarking, Fieldwalking and More by Lara Maiklem. 

The book is billed as a "practical, interactive and inspiring guide" by the author, who previousy wrote part memoir, part guide Mudlarking. The synopsis explains: "Maiklem has distilled years of experience, research and advice into this beautiful field guide. The book is a flexiback format, small enough to pop in a pocket, and it is filled with maps and charts, tips and lists, and colour illustrations throughout to help identify finds. It will be a treasured companion on any larking adventure, whether beachcombing for treasures left behind by the sea, or fieldwalking to unearth the history of the land."

Maiklem said: "Mudlarking is my passion and illustrated publishing has been my career; bringing them together in this book has been a dream come true. It is a practical guide as well as an introduction to the art of searching and the joy of looking. I hope it will open people's eyes to what lies beneath their feet, wherever they might be."

UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired by Rowan Yapp, publishing director for Bloomsbury’s illustrated non-fiction, list from Sarah Ballard at United Agents. Bloomsbury will publish on 19th August 2021.

Each beautifully illustrated page is a treasure in its own right and it will be an inspiration to readers this summer and for years to come. It is my first acquisition on the emerging Illustrated Non-Fiction list and is everything I want from a book on that list."
