Bluebird has acquired Not Just a Period: Reclaim Your Cycle, Harness Your Hormones and Take Control of Your Health by Dr Hazel Wallace in a major two-book deal.
Associate publisher Jodie Lancet-Grant bought world rights from agent Carly Cook at Carly Cook Ltd, in collaboration with Nora Millar at The Millar Agency, to publish 22nd May 2025.
The book’s synopsis says: "It’s a ground-breaking reimagining of women’s health and a detailed exploration of the menstrual cycle, and is set to be a genuine game changer for hundreds of thousands of women. As well as providing advice for better periods, Not Just a Period looks at seven key health pillars—nutrition, mood, exercise, sleep, libido, breast health, skin and hair—to explain how they’re influenced by the different phases of the menstrual cycle, and how you can navigate them with greater ease."
It adds: "Bringing together new research, community-driven surveys, case studies and research-backed lifestyle practices, Not Just a Period explains how to handle every phase of the menstrual cycle with confidence and a sense of control, deepening our understanding of how the female body works and busting the many stigmas surrounding female menstrual health."
Wallace is a former NHS doctor, registered associate nutritionist and founder of The Food Medic platform on Instagram. She said: "I’ve seen first-hand the gaps in menstrual health support and education. Too often, women are left feeling dismissed or even alienated from their own bodies. This book is here to change that. It’s about reclaiming our cycles, understanding our unique physiology and using this knowledge to empower—not limit—our lives."
Lancet-Grant added: "I am exceptionally proud to be publishing this much-needed book from the extraordinary Dr Hazel Wallace. She has created a detailed, brilliantly-written roadmap for living in harmony with your hormones all month long, and I have no doubt that Not Just a Period will transform the lives of an army of readers."
