Bluebird has pre-empted an “uplifting” collection of short notes from Instagram therapist Allyson Dinneen.
Publisher Carole Tonkinson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Notes From Your Therapist from Ben Fowler at Abner Stein, on behalf of Renée Zuckerbrot at Massie & McQuilkin. It will be published in spring 2021.
The publisher said: “For those in need of a daily dose of affirmation and empathy, Allyson Dinneen’s words offer depth and insight while being brief and to-the-point. US-based, Dinneen’s hugely popular Instagram posts are shared and admired worldwide, leading to her large UK and Australian followings. Her bite-size words of wisdom cover everything from setting boundaries and navigating relationships, to how to take good care of yourself. As she does in her professional, therapeutic practice, Allyson’s notes seek to cultivate emotional wellbeing, recognising the struggle of being human and offering a nurturing, compassionate perspective.”
Dinneen is a marriage and family therapist and mental health counsellor, who started the Notes from Your Therapist Instagram project. She combines her professional experience with her own lived experience of trauma—losing her mother at a young age, and then her husband shortly after they became new parents—to create a book “that helps one feel less alone”.
She said: "I'm so grateful and excited for the chance to share my book in the UK at a time when our deeply human need for self-compassion and emotional connection to others is being felt all over the world. I’m looking forward to working with Carole and her team at Bluebird.”
Tonkinson added: “I am a huge fan of Allyson’s Instagram account. There are a lot of up-and-coming Insta-therapists out there, but Allyson’s years of professional experience and moving personal story infuse her work and take her advice to another level. I’m overjoyed to be working with someone I admire so much.”
