Bluebird has acquired Awake: A Memoir by Texas-based author Jen Hatmaker, a “powerful memoir of self-discovery, authenticity and finding the courage to rethink and rebuild your life after heartbreak”.
Jodie Lancet-Grant, associate publisher at Bluebird, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Matilda Forbes-Watson at WME, with publication scheduled for September 2025.
It is also described as a “fascinating account of a woman learning to question the rules of the oppressively patriarchal US church in which she grew up” and a story of “hope and resilience”.
Lancet-Grant said: “As soon as I started reading Awake, I just couldn’t stop – Jen puts her experiences down on the page so beautifully. In many ways, it reminded me of Glennon Doyle’s Untamed (Penguin) in that it too is a book that will make readers feel seen, held and understood.
“I strongly suspect it will be passed from woman to woman – especially those going through divorce, heartbreak or any other tough times – with a whispered ‘you must read this’. I really hope they do, because I know Jen’s words will help.”
Author and podcaster Hatmaker said: “This is the truest thing I have ever written. This is the life I was meant to live and the book I was born to write for women.”
