Bluebird has signed up a “smart-thinking” parenting book by child psychiatrist Dr Holan Liang.
Publisher Carole Tonkinson secured UK & Commonwealth rights from Laetitia Rutherford at Watson, Little in a best bids contest.
In Inside Out Parenting: How to Build Strong Children from a Core of Self-Esteem Liang presents her practical approach to bringing up children from the inside out, setting aside exterior results in favour of building a core of self-esteem, resilience and social ability. This, argues Liang in a witty blend of memoir, hard science and hands-on anecdotal evidence, is a far more assured route both to happiness and success.
Liang is a consultant at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street, and mother of two.
She said: "I'm so happy that the fantastic team at Bluebird will be supporting me to share my scientific and not so scientific parenting story with a wider audience. As a child psychiatrist I have a wealth of clinical experience and exposure to cutting edge research on child development but how did this help me raise my kids? I share with you my top tips and my failed attempts."
Tonkinson added: “I’m really excited to be working with Holan on this important book. The vast majority of parenting books are written by therapists and not child psychiatrists. Holan brings a rare depth of medical knowledge as well as a broad-range of clinical experience to her work and on top of all that she has her own experience as a parent to two young children. Holan effortlessly translates the latest scientific discoveries into practical advice that will help parents everywhere to do what they long to do most--equip their children with a solid base of self-esteem and a core of resilience, which will facilitate their long-term growth and happiness.’’
The title will be published on 17th February.
