Bluebird is to publish a “definitive” guide to parenting healthy gamers by Dr Alok Kanojia, who streams advice on gaming platform Twitch.
Publisher Carole Tonkinson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to How to Raise a Healthy Gamer from Gordon Wise at Curtis Brown on behalf of Dan Milaschewski and Byrd Leavell at UTA. Bluebird will publish in March 2024.
The guide offers parents a step-by-step approach to healthy gaming—whether the parent is contending with a legitimate video game addiction or is looking to establish good technology habits.
Kanojia, known as Dr K on Twich, is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and cofounder of Healthy Gamer, a mental health resource. He struggled himself with video game addiction as a teenager and young adult.
He said: “Technology and mental health are the defining challenges for today’s parents. As a psychiatrist who nearly dropped out of college because of video games and as a parent myself, I deeply appreciate that what every parent wants is simply to give their children the love, skills and support they need to flourish.”
Tonkinson added: “Dr K is the most authoritative voice on this subject, drawing on his work with gamers and their families over the last four years; his work teaching psychiatry at Harvard; his own lived experience of struggle with gaming addiction in his youth. He shows parents how to build a bridge with their children and not create a war about timings and priorities.”
