Bolinda audio has signed Cursed from the “queen of the reimagined fairytale” Marissa Meyer.
Nicki Powell, senior rights and content executive, acquired world English rights, excluding US and Canada, from Jill Grinberg Literary Management. The audiobook was released simultaneously with the Faber print edition on 8th November 2022.
Cursed is the second in a young adult duology, following on from Gilded, which was published in November 2021. The second instalment plunges listeners back into the reimagined world of Rumpelstilktin, following Serilda and Gild as they attempt to break the curse that ties them to Adalheid’s haunted castle. The publisher wrote: “Fans of Meyer’s previous bestselling Lunar Chronicle series will recognise narration by Rebecca Soler, the award-winning voice actor who has read all of Meyer’s previous books in audio.”
Powell commented: “Meyer’s ability to give age-old fairy tales a new and unexpected twist is unparalleled. Both Gilded and Cursed somehow simultaneously transport listeners to an unexplored world yet still feel like revisiting old friends. Continuing to publish Marissa in audio and hook new listeners to this master storyteller is such an exciting privilege.”
Meyer added: “I am thrilled to be working once again with the wonderfully talented Rebecca Soler for the audiobook of Cursed. Rebecca has a magical way of bringing stories to life through her narration, and I am in awe at how she can balance the humour and light-heartedness of Serilda (a gifted storyteller), with the gloomy horrors of Adalheid Castle and the Wild Hunt. I am so excited for listeners to hear the conclusion to this dark fairytale!”
