Pan Macmillan has acquired two new books by psychological thriller writer Debbie Howells.
The first book as part of the deal and Howell's third novel is Part of the Silence, described as a "beautifully-written" psychological thriller, "about secrets, distorted realities and the unreliability of memory, set on the Cornish coast".
Part of the Silence tells the story of a woman who wakes up with amnesia in a maize field, battered and left for dead. As she slowly regains her memory, however, she begins to remember she had a three-year-old daughter - a child the police are convinced doesn't exist.
It comes out in 2017 with the second in the deal, Howell's fourth novel, due to publish in 2018. UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired from Juliet Mushens of United Talent Agency.
Howells is a florist, based in Sussex, and the author of the bestselling debut The Bones of You, which has been selected for the Richard and Judy Spring 2016 Book Club. Howells' second book, The Beauty of the End, publishes wih Pan Macmillan this summer.
Editorial director Trisha Jackson said: "Debbie is a joy to work with and her writing has an originality and freshness to it which, for me, sets her apart in this crowded market."
