Big Picture Press has bought Welcome to the Museum: Insectarium by bee expert Dave Goulson and illustrated by Emily Carter, in partnership with the Royal Entomological Society (RES).
Senior commissioning editor of Big Picture Press Charlie Wilson, m.d. of children’s trade at Bonnier Books UK Helen Wicks, and former head of Big Picture Press Joanna McInerney acquired world rights from Patrick Walsh with Dave Goulson at PEW Literacy Agency. Insectarium will be published in hardback on 26th September 2024.
The book is the latest title in Big Picture Press’ non-fiction "Welcome to the Museum" collection which has sold in over 20 territories across the globe.
“Insectarium is a beautifully illustrated guide, exploring the fascinating world of insects and educating the reader about the small creatures that have a huge impact on the planet and why we should be protecting them,” the Bonnier Books UK imprint said.
Goulson commened: “Insects are incredibly diverse, sometimes weird, often beautiful, and always fascinating. Insectarium contains my favourite examples of some of the most striking and peculiar insects from around the world.”

Goulson is professor of biology at the University of Sussex, specialising in bee ecology. He has published more than 300 scientific articles on the ecology and conservation of bumblebees and other insects and has written several bestselling books in this area.
Carter is an award-winning British designer based in London, specialising in hand-illustrated silk accessories, stationery and furnishings. Her collections incorporate themes from natural history, flora, fauna and scientific illustration to create surreal and unique illustrations and prints.
