Studio Press, part of Bonnier Publishing, is releasing the official Be Cool Be Nice book in partnership with the global anti-cyber bullying movement of the same name. The book will also feature the first-ever book collaboration with Snapchat.
The Be Cool Be Nice (BCBN) movement launched last year with Kendall Jenner and Willow Smith on the covers of Garage magazine (Autumn/Winter 2016) and a collaboration with Snapchat. Its aim is to combat cyber-bullying by encouraging everyone to use social media in "a positive and proactive way".
Bonnier Publishing has now partnered with BCBN to publish its official book this autumn with imprints Studio Press in the UK and Sizzle Press in the USA. Perminder Mann, c.e.o. of Bonnier Publishing, UK, put the joint venture together with BCBN.
The book will be "part unique-journal" and "part friend", according to Bonnier Publishing. While the ambition is for every page to be "a work of art", it will also comprise "rhythmic" prose delivering "cool reminders to be kinder" via a host of original characters and designs from Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Marc Newson, Pat McGrath, DSquared2 and Emilio Pucci, among others. It also includes activities and quizzes encouraging readers to reflect, learn, and get "positively creative" on and offline.
Artistic direction for the book has been supplied by Kravitz Design, an interior and product design firm led by the multi Grammy award-winning rock-star Lenny Kravitz, and Chaos Fashion (Charlotte Stockdale and Katie Lyall), stylists who have worked for luxury brands such as Fendi.
The title is accompanied by an interactive app, accessible through iTunes/ App Store and Google Play for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, to unlock additional content, including exclusive video content, image reveals and interactive games.
The book is also the first to feature a trigger on the front cover to reveal two exclusive Snapchat BCBN lenses. Book-buyers will be able to access the lenses through a "snapcode" on the sticker on the book's front cover or from the inside pages, via the Snapchat app.
Bonnier Publishing said it hopes the book, like the movement, will "inspire modern generations with timeless values such as courtesy, kindness, and civility in a refreshing, relatable, and engaging manner".
Mann said: “We’re delighted to partner on the book, which is a natural extension to BCBN. It will eliminate some of the negativity in the social media space our young people are in today and is also a uniquely beautiful book to hold, enjoy and revisit time and time again.”
Publicity will commence during New York Fashion Week (7th September) and continue during London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks throughout the autumn.
Public figures supporting the book include Baroness Amos, United Nations Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, who said the book "reminds us all that each and every one of us must play our part, to create a more just society", and Kylie Minogue, who hailed the project a "wonderful reminder" that "kindess never goes out of style".
Be Cool Be Nice will publish 9th November as a £14.99 hardback in time for Anti-Bullying Week, 13th-17th November.
