Oneworld is to publish The Art of Failing by Anthony McGowan.
Sam Carter, editor at Oneworld, acquired world English language rights, including audio, from Charlie Campbell at Kingsford Campbell.
In The Art of Failing McGowan recalls his failures amidst the trials and tribulations of everyday life, giving voice to thoughts and opinions that would "otherwise go unheard", the publisher said.
Carter said: "Quite simply the funniest writing I’ve read in years. I’m been in paroxysms on my commute, and been regaling my colleague with snippets since I first read it. Lucky them."
McGowan said: "This is life viewed as a tragi-comedy, where the comedy is low, and the tragedy, slight. It’s a love poem to holed socks, unsatisfactory packed lunches, athlete’s foot powder, the eccentrics of the British Library, Andrew’s liver salts, Kierkegaard, Morrissey and the rainy streets of West Hampstead, where an unlucky Northerner finds himself at sea."
Oneworld will publish in the UK in autumn 2017.
