Ebury Press and The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a nationwide tree planting initiative created to mark the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, have announced a new book to honour her memory entitled The Queen’s Green Canopy.
World rights were bought by publishing director Elizabeth Bond from Charlotte Merritt at Andrew Nurnberg Associates. The Queen’s Green Canopy will be published on 1st June 2023.
With a foreword from His Majesty The King (the then Prince of Wales became Patron of The Queen’s Green Canopy in 2021), the book will showcase the 70 ancient trees and 70 ancient woodlands dedicated to the Queen in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.
Illustrated with photographs taken throughout the Platinum Jubilee year by nature photographers Adrian Houston and Charles Sainsbury-Place, the book is intended as a celebration of the ancient woodlands and trees, showing how the nation’s landscape changes dramatically through the seasons and telling the wider story of Britain’s history, the publisher says.
The photographs will be accompanied by pieces from supporters of The Queen’s Green Canopy, including Dame Judi Dench, Alan Titchmarsh MBE, Archbishop Justin Welby and Danny Clarke, as well as experts from leading tree planting organisations in the UK. The written pieces will give reflections on the trees that have marked their lives and the importance of conserving the UK’s ancient trees and woodlands for future generations.
A public exhibition of the photographs included in the book will go on display at Sotheby’s at New Bond Street in London from 10th until 20th December 2022.
Bond said: “Ebury is honoured and thrilled to be publishing this unique and stunning celebration of Great Britain’s ancient trees and woodlands and supporting the living legacy for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for generations to come.”
Dan Rex, c.e.o of The Queen’s Green Canopy, added: “The Queen’s Green Canopy is delighted that the unique stories of the UK’s precious and irreplaceable ancient trees and woodlands will be showcased in this stunning book by Ebury. By sharing these captivating picture stories, we hope to raise awareness of the UK’s treasured habitats which are often referred to as ‘Nature’s Crown Jewels’.”
Following the passing of the Queen, the initiative has been extended to March 2023 to give people an opportunity to plant trees in her honour. More information can be found here.
