The Borough Press has snapped up two more novels from Bella Mackie.
An deal for world English rights was struck by Ann Bissell, editorial director, with Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown, and will cement Mackie’s publishing with Borough until 2027.
Her bestseller How to Kill Your Family will be published in paperback in April 2022. Her second novel will follow in 2023.
Mackie said: "I never thought I’d get to write one novel, so to be given the chance to write several feels overwhelming. I’m so thrilled to get to work with my brilliant editor Ann Bissell, and everyone else at Borough, to bring out two new books. I’m so grateful to them for helping make How to Kill Your Family the success that it’s been."
Bissell said: "Selling 100,000 copies ahead of a paperback outing is truly phenomenal for a debut; testament to the novel’s perfect balance of scathing cynicism, dark humour and a heroine you can’t help rooting for, despite the fact she’s a serial killer.
"It would seem the story of a rage-filled woman attempting to bring down a man in a position of power – a man who abuses his status, neglects his duties and lies to those underneath him – has struck a chord! Bella is an author at the start of a brilliant fiction career, and I could not be prouder to continue to publish her at Borough."
