An "exposé" of Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn from investigative biographer Tom Bower, Dangerous Hero: Corbyn's Ruthless Plot for Power, will be published by William Collins next month, with the publisher promising an “explosive and important” book.
Arabella Pike, publishing director for William Collins, negotiated the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights with Jonathan Lloyd at Curtis Brown with publication scheduled for 21st February.
After four decades in politics, Corbyn stands on the brink of power, the synopsis reads. Until his surprise election as Labour leader in 2015, he had not been a major political player. Since then, he has survived coup attempts, accusations of incompetence, charges of anti-Semitism, bullying and not being the master of his brief. The blurb adds despite these shortcomings, and if the Conservatives successfully rip themselves apart over Europe, he could soon become Britain's prime minister.
"Yet this hero of the far left, with his repeatedly stated commitment to improve the lives of the impoverished, fight injustice, champion equality and destroy greed, has done his best to conceal much of his past and personal life from public scrutiny," the publisher said.
Bower “will reveal the hidden truths about Corbyn's character, the causes and organisations he espouses, and Britain's likely fate under the Marxist-Trotskyist society he has championed since the early 70s,” the publisher said. “Based on eyewitness accounts from those who have known Corbyn throughout his life, Bower will ask whether a Labour government led by Corbyn would deliver a glowing new era or catastrophe?”
Bower is an investigative journalist who has written biographies of controversial power-brokers including Richard Branson, Robert Maxwell and Tony Blair among others, with his latest book, Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, also published by William Collins last year. He has sold 360,000 copies for £3.9m according to Nielsen Bookscan.
The author said: “If the Tories rip themselves apart over Europe, Jeremy Corbyn will step into Downing Street as Britain’s saviour. Since he has successfully concealed much about his life, I decided to find out the truth about Britain’s next prime minister. My discoveries will surprise his friends and alarm his foes.”
Pike said: “Tom Bower’s new book is incredibly timely. At this time of political meltdown, Britain needs to know more about the leader of the opposition and Dangerous Hero provides the information. We could not be more excited to be publishing this explosive and important book in February. It is sure to make headlines.”
