Pan Macmillan imprint Boxtree is publishing a new unauthorised oral history of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off "Angel", called Slayers and Vampires, to mark the 20th anniversary of the original cult '90s TV show.
To inform the hardback book, which makes use of transcripts of interviews, TV experts Edward Gross and Mark Altman talked to almost 100 writers, producers, directors, filmmakers, sociologists and stars from the two shows, including Joss Whedon, Guillermo del Toro, Felicia Day, Anthony Stewart Head, Charisma Carpenter, James Marsters and David Boreanaz.
Jamie Coleman, senior commissioning editor of Boxtree, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from St Martins/Tor for Slayers and Vampires: The Complete Uncensored, Unauthorized, Oral History of Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel.
Coleman said: "No TV show inspires as much devotion as 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', 20 years on from the first episode and subsequent brilliant spin-off show 'Angel', its influence is felt everywhere from 'Star Wars' to 'Marvel'. This brilliant oral history is completely unofficial and unauthorized and all the better for it, packed full of fascinating stories and the voices of key crew and cast. It's a must for any 'Buffy' fan and a brilliant addition to the Buffyverse."
Author and journalist Gross is currently executive editor of Empire Magazine Online and film and television writer and producer Altman most recently was co-executive producer of TNT series, "The Librarians". Together they co-authored The Fifty-Year Mission, the definitive oral history of Star Trek, from St. Martin’s Press.
Slayers and Vampires will be published by Boxtree in hardback on 5th October 2017.
