The Bridge Street Press, an imprint of Little, Brown, has acquired Chasing Shadows, an “addictive true crime thriller” by Miles Johnson, an award-winning investigative journalist at the Financial Times.
Publisher Sameer Rahim bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown, with publication in hardback scheduled for 3rd August 2023.
Chasing Shadows follows the connected lives of three men: relentless Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Jack Kelly, ambitious Mafia capo Salvatore Pititto and shadowy master-terrorist Mustafa Badreddine.
Johnson specialises in covering organised crime and financial corruption across the world. In more than a decade at the FT he has held senior roles in London and worked as a correspondent in New York, Madrid and Rome. In 2021 he was nominated for British Foreign Reporter of the Year at the British Press Awards for his work covering the mafia.
He said: “I am incredibly excited to be publishing my first book with The Bridge Street Press. We live in an age where a new breed of world leaders act like crime bosses, and crime bosses act like c.e.os of multinational companies. Chasing Shadows is a book that I hope will plunge the reader into places that are normally hidden, and reveal something about the way the world around us really works.”
Rahim commented: “I am grateful to the excellent judgement of my predecessor Tim Whiting, who signed up Miles and his terrific book before I arrived. Not only is Chasing Shadows an exciting true crime story, it also has so much to say about the perils of working in middle management – whether that’s in the DEA, the Mafia or a militant group. It has been a pleasure working with Miles and the superb blurbs we have for the book already show what a special title we have on our hands.”
