Small press Broken Sleep Books has signed a debut poetry collection from Otamere Guobadia.
Publisher Aaron Kent acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to Unutterable Visions, Perishable Breath, from Zoe Ross at United Agents. The collection will be published on 30th November 2023.
The collection is organised according to the four humours: "Ichor, "Black Bile", "Yellow Bile" and "Phlegm". Each section reflects a "distinct mood and flavour of writing, bearing the qualities of their traditionally associated temperaments".
Guobadia is a writer, poet and columnist whose work has appeared in British Vouge, Dazed, the Guardian and Vogue Italia.
Kent commented: "I’ve always been keen to present work that is radical in its approach, work that is at once subversive and connective, that shows new ways of thinking but doesn’t alienate the reader, and that is exactly what Otamere has produced with Unutterable Visions, Perishable Breath. It’s a bold collection of poetry that proves Otamere is one of the most exciting and vital voices we have, not just in poetry but in the world of literature. To be working with him on this debut is an absolute honour, and one I know I will look back on with pride when Otamere continues to go on to great things and set world of literature alight."
