Broudie signs deal with Nine Eight Books

Nine Eight Books has acquired Tomorrow’s Here Today: Lightning Seeds, Football and Cosmic Post-Punk by musician Ian Broudie.

Pete Selby, publishing director at the the music imprint of Bonnier Books UK, acquired world rights from Charlie Brotherstone at Brotherstone Creative Management. Tomorrow’s Here Today will be published in hardback, audiobook and e-book on 26th October 2023.

“From post punk Liverpool and Big In Japan to producing and working with acts like Echo & The Bunnymen and The Fall, Ian Broudie established a cult following early in his career," the blurb reads. "But in 1989, he returned to where it all began: his bedroom, tape recorder and guitar in hand.

“Out of necessity, with no record contract and no band in place, Ian sang and played everything on the tapes himself, recording in his ‘spare bedroom’. The record took off and his next three records received huge critical acclaim.

“Now following the release of the Lightning Seeds’ long-awaited comeback album, Ian reflects on his illustrious career as one of our most critically and commercially revered artists.”

Broudie said: “I was really glad to be asked by Pete Selby and Nine Eight Books to share some memories and stories from my life.

"It seems to have been a helter-skelter ride of unexpected and extraordinary adventures, with a collection of eccentric and inspiring friends and characters, who I’ve encountered along the way.

“I’ve really enjoyed looking back and capturing some forgotten memories, from Big In Japan and cosmic Liverpool, to the Lightning Seeds and beyond.”

Selby said: “Few UK artists over the past 45 years have enjoyed such a Zelig-like career as Ian Broudie. As a songwriter and musician, melody pours effortlessly from him, a continuum of the great North West musical lineage he embraced as a child.

“As a producer he has guided some of our most idiosyncratic artists to deliver career defining albums and as a voice of the people he has co-written arguably the biggest and most anthemic folk song in this country’s history.”

Selby added: “Ian is a man of many passions, but it is his love and belief in the power of music and ideas that drives this funny, insightful and incredibly affecting memoir.”

Broudie is a musician, singer-songwriter and producer from Liverpool. Known for his band the Lightning Seeds, he also co-wrote the anthem "Three Lions" and has produced bands such as Echo & The Bunnymen, The Fall and The Coral.
