Journalist and mental health campaigner Bryony Gordon will share her ten crucial life lessons for teenage girls in a book due to be published by Hachette Children’s Group in May.
In A Mad Girl’s Guide To Being You Gordon will talk about her experiences of growing up and living with mental health issues, covering subjects such as consent, body image, self-esteem, food and relationships along the way.
‘I’m delighted to be writing my first book for teens,” said Gordon. “This book contains all the life lessons I wish someone had told me at 14, which I am only really learning now as I prepare to hit my forties. A book for the teenage girl in me. And for every teenage girl out there. I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
The book will be published on the Wren & Rook imprint on 2nd May 2019 to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.
Publishing director Debbie Foy, who acquired world rights along with senior editor Laura Horsley from Nelle Andrew at Peters, Fraser, Dunlop, said: “I’m so thrilled to be bringing Bryony Gordon to the Wren & Rook list. Bryony is an absolute inspiration to females everywhere and her humour, energy and focus around mental health and body positivity is something that will speak to young girls on so many levels. Her book will encourage girls to grow up with self-esteem, respect, self-love and confidence – and to know that they are already totally brilliant.”
Gordon has worked for the Telegraph for 18 years and is the author of two books for adults: The Wrong Knickers and Mad Girl, which are published by Headline and have together sold 154,326 copies through Nielsen BookScan. She also founded Mental Health Mates, a group for people to talk about their experiences of mental health.
