Buster Books, the children’s imprint of Michael O’Mara Books, will publish A Day in the Life of a Caveman, a Queen and Everything In Between, by author Mike Barfield and illustrator Jess Bradley this autumn.
A Day in the Life of a Caveman, a Queen and Everything In Between is the sequel to the 2020 title A Day in the Life of a Poo, a Gnu and You, also published by Buster Books and winner of the Blue Peter Award for the Best Book with Facts.
The new title will be focused on history, and will give a taste of the daily lives of the people, animals and objects from the past. The book will feature more than 90 entries including a day in the life of early humans, a gladiator battling in the colosseum and the first woman in space, as well as history from the perspective of animals and objects.
Lauren Farnsworth, editorial director, acquired world rights from agent Anne Clark. Publication is scheduled for 30th September 2021.
Frances Evans, managing editor, said: “It’s been such a joy to work with Mike and Jess this past year and see them bring history to life as only they can. I think readers are in for an absolute treat!”
Barfield commented: “I’m very excited to be working once again with super-doodler Jess Bradley on this follow-up to A Day in the Life of a Poo, a Gnu and You. That book did better than our wildest dreams in bagging the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book with Facts. A Day in the Life of a Caveman, a Queen and Everything In Between brings the same successful ‘facts and fun’ recipe and, given the subject matter, I’m hopeful this second book will make history. Well, it will certainly make it funny, anyway!”
Bradley added: "I’m super happy to be working on another amazing book with the fantastic Mike Barfield and the lovely folks at Buster Books. This one is all about history and is packed full of amazing people and objects that I will love bringing to life."
