Simon & Schuster has snapped up two novels from Louise Candlish, previously published by Penguin and Little, Brown, in a six-figure deal.
S&S acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for two novels in a deal agented by Sheila Crowley at Curtis Brown.
Book one, Our House, will be published in the UK in hardback and e-book in May 2018.
Candlish said she set out to write the story she really wanted to read with the book, “a kind of Gone Girl meets Capital”.
“It charts the dissolution of a marriage in which the couple become entangled in a fraud, leading them in very dangerous directions,” Candlish said. “I'm delighted that Jo and the team at Simon & Schuster share my excitement about the novel and it's an honour to be joining their crime and thriller family.”
Jo Dickinson, publishing director for fiction at Simon & Schuster UK, said she had been a fan of Candlish’s storytelling “for years”.
“The hook of this novel grabbed everyone at S&S immediately – and there is a brilliant twist that left us gasping. We are very excited indeed to work with Louise,” she added.
Our House will be published in the US by Berkley Publishing Group, part of Penguin Random House.
Candlish is the author of eleven novels, most recently The Swimming Pool (Penguin, 2016) and The Sudden Departure of the Frasers (Penguin, 2015), with the latter optioned for TV by Hartswood Films.
Over half a million copies of her books have been sold to date, S&S UK said.
