Canelo has captured The Treatment and a second standalone “high-concept” crime thriller by Sarah Moorhead. Commissioning editor Kit Nevile has acquired world English language rights from Ed Wilson at Johnson & Alcock in a two-book deal.
The Treatment is set in a world where “the future of law enforcement has arrived” in the form of a tiered “Offender Treatment Programme”. It follows psychiatrist Grace Gunnarsson, who “has uncovered a terrible flaw in the system, one that is allowing people to get away with murder”.
Nevile said: “The Treatment is everything I could want in a thriller – excellent pacing, fascinating characters and a totally compelling narrative with a moral undercurrent that asks poignant and troubling questions about the state of modern society. Sarah’s voice is razor sharp and resonant, and I can’t wait for readers to experience this important, unforgettable novel."
Moorhead added: “Kit is my dream editor, someone who has the vision and insight to take my writing to the next level and help me to bring my ideas to a wide audience. The themes of justice, crime, revenge and morality have always been an obsession of mine and I’m excited to be able to share my stories with readers.”
The Treatment will be published in August 2023, in e-book and paperback, with a second book to follow in summer 2024.
