Canongate has nabbed nature writer James Canton’s new guide to rewilding, titled Renaturing: A Year in the Life of a Small Field.
Editorial director Simon Thorogood acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in Renaturing from Jessica Woollard at David Higham Associates. The book will be published in March 2025 in hardback and e-book with a paperback to follow.
The synopsis reads: “At a time when everyone seems to be talking about rewilding – returning land to a natural, self-sustaining ecosystem – James Canton asks whether it is really something anyone could do. What if you don’t happen to own a large estate? In response to these questions, Renaturing is James’ account of the transformation of a small field behind his home.”
Canton commented: “I’m thrilled to see Renaturing becoming a book. It’s just so important that each and every one of us is enabled and encouraged to be actively involved in bringing nature back and restoring ecological complexity whatever the wild landscape we tend – be it a backyard or a balcony, a small field, a suburban garden, an English estate or a window box.”
Thorogood added: “Through his personal journey in the book James Canton has given us a different way of thinking about how we can help support the natural world around us.”
