Canongate will publish Geoff Dyer’s See/Saw: Looking at Photographs 2010–2020, later this year.
Publishing director Francis Bickmore acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Sarah Chalfant at the Wylie Agency, and US rights have been sold to Graywolf Press. The book will be published as a gift edition hardback in November 2020.
Bickmore said: "Dyer writing on any subject brings a heady rush of joy. His wit, his insight, his irreverence–I find it hard to think of anyone else who is such good company on the page. In this image-saturated age, where everybody seems to be taking and broadcasting photographs on a daily basis, See/Saw will be a much needed and sumptuously produced book on how we might appreciate and read photographs better."
Dyer added: "Several years ago I edited a collection of John Berger’s writing on photography. I was so pleased with the result that I thought about someday putting together a book of someone else’s writing on photography: mine! Turns out there was a ton of stuff, from the last ten years, to choose from and I’m overjoyed that Canongate are turning it all into what will be a very beautiful object."
Dyer is an award-winning author of 14 books. His works have won awards including the Somerset Maugham Prize, the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction, the International Center of Photography’s 2006 Infinity Award for writing on photography and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
