Foulds' novel on the 'perils of celebrity' to Cape
Jonathan Cape will publish Adam Foulds’ “stunning, terrifying” new novel about a self-obsessed actor and a deranged fan.
Robin Roberston, associate publisher at the Penguin Random House imprint, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada from Sarah Chalfant at the Wylie Agency.
Dream Sequence is about two strangers on the brink: a “brilliant but narcissistic English actor about his dream role” and “psychologically damaged American super-fan”, Kristin, who believes the pair are destined to be together. It will be published in 2018.
A Jonathan Cape spokesperson said: “Exploring what it is to live at our current moment, with its porous borders between the inner and outer life, Dream Sequence is a stunning, terrifying drama about psychological damage, stalking and the perils of celebrity.”
Foulds is a novelist and poet who was named as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists. The Broken Word (Jonathan Cape) won the 2008 Costa Poetry Award and the Somerset Maugham Award and The Quickening Maze (Vintage) was shortlisted for the 2009 Man Booker Prize and won the Encore Award and the European Union Prize for Literature.
