Carcanet Press has landed that which appears by Thomas A Clark, a compilation of the previously published The Hundred Thousand Places, Yellow & Blue, Farm by the Shore and that which appears, originally published in 1994 by Paragon Press.
Managing director Michael Schmidt acquired world rights directly from the author. The poetry collection will be published in April 2024.
In that which appears Clark explores "how reparation for environmental damage can only begin by paying attention, in knowledge or appreciation gained on the ground". The poems were inspired from walking in the highlands and islands of Scotland.
Schmidt commented: "This is a wonderful celebration of three decades of poems and wanderings by one of Scotland’s favourite poets, a true original. His words are wedded to Scottish nature, geology, flora, its changing lights and seasons, shores and peaks. What I love about the work is how it is in service of his unique and always specific landscapes. The poems sharpen my seeing and joy in seeing and being in the world."
