Joffe Books has signed a seven-book deal with the previously self-published US author Anya Mora.
Commissioning editor Steph Carey acquired world English e-book, print and audiobook rights to The Girls of Glennmare, plus two new titles, from Sarah Hershman of Hershman Rights Management. Also included in the deal are Mora’s four previously self-published works. The Girls of Glennmare will publish in autumn 2023.
The synopsis for The Girls of Glennmare reads: “At the isolated and exclusive Glennmare Academy, five girls harbour a dark obsession for their young literature professor. They’ve finally turned 18, but they’re living in strict conditions with no modern technology. Then one of the girls goes missing and the strange goings-on at the academy can no longer be ignored. Deep dark secrets will out in Mora’s masterfully atmospheric thriller.”
Mora said of the acquisitions: “I always say that when I put my whole heart into something, it works out beautifully in the way it was supposed to. This feels meant to be. I’m filled with gratitude to partner with Joffe Books and have the chance to share my stories with a wider audience! Signing with Joffe has been a plot twist I didn’t see coming, and I couldn’t be more excited!”
Carey added: “Anya is a dream signing for me – her thrilling psychological suspense novels are pacy and powerful and her female protagonists so richly drawn. Anya is an absolute master of her craft and I can’t wait to relaunch her previously published works alongside bringing out three brand-new titles. The whole team at Joffe are so excited to get to work and I could not be more thrilled to have signed Anya to our list.”
